WHAT WE DO

OUR TEAM HAS SPACECRAFT THERMAL EXPERIENCE ACROSS A WIDE ARRAY OF VEHICLES AND MISSIONS: FROM LARGE MANNED SPACECRAFT TO SMALL SATELLITES, AND FROM LOW EARTH ORBIT (LEO) TO INTERPLANETARY MISSIONS

VEHICLE THERMAL DESIGN.

We provide heater sizing and placement and sensor location for components and subsystems. Multi-layer insulation layup specification and placement. Heatpipe sizing and layout. The best selection of optical and material properties for specific design needs. Active thermal control design including cold plate design, fluid pressure drop, and loop performance.

VEHICLE MODELING.

We quickly develop thermal models from simple concepts or detailed CAD. These thermal models range from simplified models to detailed models and are strategically developed from the ground up. For readily available thermal models we perform model audits and external model reviews to check for errors, limitations, accuracy, and consistency and make recommendations to improve model execution speed. We also simplify complex detailed models down to critical interfaces with vastly improved runtimes. We are familiar with managing complex integration of thermal models and even integration of multiple separate thermal models into one thermal environment for example ORION docked to Lunar Lander.

VEHICLE DEVELOPMENT.

We quickly assess multiple configurations to provide the greatest level of flexibility to accommodate the needs of other sub-systems (vehicle configuration management, Stress, Loads and Dynamics, Aero-Sciences). Additionally, we are readily able to trade mass, cost, and schedule to find an optimal programmatic solution.

VEHICLE TESTING.

We can generate test plans and specifications to meet industry standards of acceptance and qualification. Test plans cover which system and component requirements shall be met during the test, the location of ground test instrumentation, and test heater sizing to simulate environments and protect costly mechanical and electrical ground support equipment. This also covers test design such as thermal plateaus and stability points during the test.

VEHICLE FLIGHT.

We have on-console flight experience with NASA. Many contingencies arise during flight, and we are prepared to accommodate changes to flight plans and procedures. We are familiar with the inter-operation of other teams to complete vehicle missions.

VEHICLE DATA MANAGEMENT.

We have a suite of tools to post-process large sets of thermal analysis data, thermal test data, and thermal flight data and we can provide results in meaningful media formats for our customers.
